Most of us are time-poor these days - streamline your skincare to suit a busy lifestyle.
In between work, socialising, raising kids, looking after pets, or creating and maintaining a home, there is little time for much else. So, you don’t really want your skin care to be laborious and time-consuming, do you? I sure don’t, so I grilled leading beauty therapist and owner of the Paddington Beauty Room, Anna Field, for her top tips for streamlining skin care.
1. Get a Double Duty Cleanser
“Choose a cleanser that is designed for eyes and face versus a separate eye cleanser,” says Anna. “It will save time and cotton wool.” Anna also adds that while you should double cleanse at night (once for make-up, once for the dirt and grime of the day), it’s OK to single cleanse in the morning.
2. Minimise Toning Time
Anna suggests splashing your toner on your face, like an aftershave, rather than wiping it on with cotton wool. “You could also decant some into a spray bottle and mist it over your face.” Anna adds that you should never skip toner as “it helps your treatment products, serums and moisturisers will penetrate fast and more efficiently.”
3. Multi-Task in the Shower
“Apply a hydrating mask before showering and leave it in while you’re washing and conditioning your hair,” advises Anna. “Moisturising masks contain humectants and will draw all of that steamy moisture goodness into your skin.”
4. Get Scientific
“Choose effective and efficient products that are high tech, as they will deliver the results you are after, fast,” Anna says. “It will save you time swapping and changing less effective brands until you get it right. You may spend a little more initially, but in the long run it will stop you spending more chopping and changing.”
5. Don’t over Exfoliate
“Most people exfoliate too much,” says Anna. “Keep it to a once or twice a week, and when you do, choose a mask that both exfoliates and brightens, or doubles up with some other skin care benefit.”
6. Slough while you Wash
“Use an exfoliating cloth with your body wash, so that you clean and exfoliate your body at the same time.”
7. Be Prepared
“Prepare your bathroom cupboard or shelf so that it is in order of usage,” advises Anna. “It will save you heaps of time searching for products. For example – keep your cleanser close by the shower, and then on your shelf from left to right, keep your toner, serum, eye cream and moisturiser - no thought required!”
